La Liga President Voices Hope for Mason Greenwood's Continuation in Spanish Football
Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, expressed his hope that Manchester United's forward on loan, Mason Greenwood, continues his future in Spanish football post his current tenure with Getafe. Greenwood had moved to Getafe during September’s deadline day after Manchester United decided in favor of his external play following an internal investigation into his conduct.
Even though Manchester United had hinted strongly at Mason's unlikelihood of representing them in the future, following recent events new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe suggested reassessing that. However, Ratcliffe did not reveal his preference for Greenwood's return to Old Trafford or not.
Tebas, during his address to the Financial Times Business of Football Conference in London, expressed his disinterest in passing judgment on Greenwood. Drawing upon his legal background, Tebas mentioned that every individual acquitted in a legal case deserves no further discourse. He added: "He is doing really well as a player, and I hope he continues to stay in Spanish football. That is good for us."
Mason Greenwood has showcased commendable performance, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 25 appearances to date for Getafe. Meanwhile, La Liga is presently probing into a complaint lodged by Getafe relating to a comment made by Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham towards Greenwood during their match on February 1. However, media reports suggest that Greenwood desires to drop the investigation.
On the subject of Bellingham's effect on La Liga, Tebas stated: "He is not one of the best English players, he is the best English player at the moment... I hope he continues like that for many years." This highlights the importance of formidable international talent participation in La Liga for elevating the competition's reputation.
