Anthony Martial Joins AEK Athens on Three-Year Deal
Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has embarked on a new chapter in his career by signing a three-year contract with AEK Athens. After spending nine years at Old Trafford, the 28-year-old Frenchman left Manchester United upon the expiration of his contract this summer. Martial made a significant impact during his tenure, scoring 90 goals in 317 appearances since his 2015 arrival from Monaco, where he was acquired for a then-record fee for a teenager of £36 million.
AEK Athens, who currently lead the Greek Super League with three wins out of their first four matches, see Martial as a key addition to their squad. The club, having finished as runners-up last season, aims to bolster their chances of success with Martial's experience and skills. Expressing his enthusiasm, Martial stated, "I'm very happy. AEK was a chance for me and I want to give the best of myself to win trophies and bring joy to the fans."
Martial's football journey began at Lyon before moving to Monaco for £4.4 million. Despite his club successes, Martial's international career with France includes just two goals from 30 appearances, with his last appearance dating back to 2021. His move to Greece marks a new opportunity to revive his career and contribute significantly to AEK Athens' ambitions.
