Gimenez's Late Heroics Propel Atletico to Victory Over Leipzig
RB Leipzig faced a challenging night in Madrid as they fell 2-1 to Atlético Madrid, with José Giménez securing a last-minute victory for the home side. The encounter at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano started brightly for Leipzig, who took an early lead through Benjamin Šeško's opportunistic goal in the 4th minute. A misstep in Atlético’s defense allowed Šeško to nod in a rebound after Jan Oblak parried away a shot from Openda.
Atlético responded with determination, and despite Willi Orban's excellent block on Antoine Griezmann, the French forward managed to equalize before the half-hour mark. Griezmann's powerful volley, assisted by Marcos Llorente's precise delivery, bounced past Leipzig's goalkeeper, Peter Gulacsi, leveling the score at 1-1.
The match seemed destined for a draw as both teams struggled to create clear chances in the second half. However, Atlético's persistence paid off in the dying moments. Griezmann turned provider once more with a cross to the far post, where Giménez leapt above the defenders to head the ball into the net, sealing a dramatic win for Atlético Madrid and leaving Leipzig to regroup after a hard-fought battle.
