Chelsea
Enzo Maresca does not have any new injury concerns hampering his preparations ahead of his side’s latest fixture. The Chelsea manager will be bereft of the services of two first-team players vs Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Reece James is the most notable absentee, with the Chelsea captain still recovering from a hamstring injury. In addition, Omari Kellyman remains on the sidelines due to a thigh issue. However, Romeo Lavia might be fit enough to feature in the matchday squad on Saturday.
Robert Sanchez is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Chelsea lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him vs Brighton & Hove Albion. The backline should feature Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. Cole Palmer will reprise the no. 10 role, with Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho being the two wide attackers. Finally, Nicolas Jackson will lead the line for Chelsea against Brighton, with Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix options on the bench.
Brighton & Hove Albion
Like his counterpart in the Chelsea dugout, Fabian Hurzeler has greeted a positive update on the team news front ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge. The Brighton & Hove Albion manager might be without four first-team players on Saturday.
Yasin Ayari has shrugged off an illness, while Brajan Gruda (knock) is close to returning to action. However, Joao Pedro remains on the sidelines, accompanying Matt O’Riley (ankle), James Milner (hamstring), and Solly March (knee) there.
Bart Verbruggen will take his spot between the sticks, with Brighton & Hove Albion lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him vs Chelsea. The backline should feature Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Pervis Estupinan.
As for the midfield unit, Jack Hinshelwood should pair up with Carlos Baleba in the double pivot, looking to keep things tight in the middle of the park. Georginio Rutter will likely reprise the no. 10 role, with Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma being the two wide attackers. Finally, Danny Welbeck will spearhead the Brighton attack against Chelsea on Saturday.
Chelsea possible starting lineup:
Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson
Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, Van Hecke, Estupinan; Hinshelwood, Baleba; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck
Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
*Chelsea beat Brighton twice in the league last season. They had gone five Premier League matches without a win against the Seagulls prior to that.
*The Seagulls have lost only one of their last four Premier League away encounters against Chelsea.
*Chelsea had a player sent off in both league meetings with Brighton last term but went on to win both matches.
*The Blues have picked up eight wins in their last 10 Premier League matches.
*Chelsea are yet to pick up a win at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this season.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
At least three goals have been scored across each of the last four Premier League meetings between these two attack-minded teams, and another entertaining contest could be in store at Stamford Bridge this weekend. Brighton have several technically gifted forwards who could cause Chelsea problems and end the club's run of three consecutive clean sheets, but we feel the West Londoners will ultimately find a way to outscore their opponents and claim their first home league victory of the season.
