Liverpool considering Juanlu Sanchez as Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement
Liverpool are monitoring Juanlu Sanchez, who has emerged as an option to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold should he depart.
According to Caught Offside, Juanlu Sanchez could emerge as an option for Liverpool to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 21-year-old La Liga prospect is one of the names the club could consider should their right-back leave, with Sevilla willing to sell at €25 million if the odds are stacked against them.
Liverpool are sweating over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future, with the right-back still undecided over what he wants to do next. Real Madrid are on his trails, and it’s always tricky to reject their overtures, meaning the Reds have to find a resolution even if it means they will have to commit to a huge deal.
Alexander-Arnold has made his condition clear to Liverpool. He wants the club to match his personal and sporting ambitions before signing a new deal. That means they will have to make him one of the highest earners at Anfield, which could take his pay package close to what Mohamed Salah makes currently.
Liverpool are making efforts in the background with talks over a new deal but are also keeping their options open. Jeremie Frimpong is a reported target to replace Alexander-Arnold, and if the 25-year-old leaves next summer, a few other names are on their shortlist.
They also have a new name for Real Madrid and Manchester United target Juanlu Sanchez, with Liverpool now considering the 21-year-old La Liga prospect a part of their shortlist. Sevilla rates the Spaniard relatively highly, although they will be willing to sell him for €25 million if he fails to commit his future to the club, with his current deal expiring in 2026.
Why does Juanlu Sanchez make sense for Liverpool?
On one hand, Frimpong’s ultra-attacking edge makes him a suitable replacement for Alexander-Arnold, but he lacks the defensive nous needed for a team like Liverpool. On the other hand, Sanchez has mainly trained to defend in the right-back role but possesses the quality to play further up the pitch, especially on the right wing.
While his numbers are not close to what Alexander-Arnold produces, Sanchez could become a top star and add to the competition with Conor Bradley at Anfield. Hence, for more reasons than not, the 21-year-old La Liga prospect would suit Liverpool if they prioritise him to replace Alexander-Arnold.
